Woe to us

I’m in the book of Isaih for my Bible reading. This afternoon, I was reading Isaiah 5 and was struck with all the things mentioned. It sounded like he was describing the current state of our nation, specifically in verses 20-23.

Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight! Woe unto them that are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink: Which justify the wicked for reward, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him!

We need to say whoa, stop to this type of behavior. Isaiah warns in verses 24-25 what happens to those who continue in their unrighteous ways:

Therefore as the fire devoureth the stubble, and the flame consumeth the chaff, so their root shall be as rottenness, and their blossom shall go up as dust: because they have cast away the law of the LORD of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.

Therefore is the anger of the LORD kindled against his people, and he hath stretched forth his hand against them, and hath smitten them: and the hills did tremble, and their carcases were torn in the midst of the streets. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

Yikes! That’s pretty bad. I don’t want that to happen to us, but it may if we continue in the direction we are heading. Yet it doesn’t have to be this way. We need to acknowledge God again in this country. We need to live and lead as Christians. We can’t leave our Christianity at the church door or mission outreach program. We need to stand up against the rampant immorality and fleshly sins prevalent in our modern culture and society. We need to live for the Lord every day in every way as commanded in 1 Corinthians 10:31.

Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.
