Cruise bye diet

As many of you readers know, we are going on a month long cruise. We leave 2 weeks from yesterday. I’m so excited. I still can’t believe we’re going, it just hasn’t sunk in yet. It’s all happened so fast.

You also know I’m on a journey to reclaim my life from being overweight. Those two seem mutually exclusive at first. I’ve been on cruises before and know they have lots of indulgent, rich foods. Cream sauces and soups, appetizers, starchy main dishes and of course desserts. That’s just the main dining room. There’s also the buffet upstairs and hamburgers or hot dogs by the pool.

However, there’s also more healthy options like lean cuts of meat and fish. You can get the sauce on the side sometimes. Have a salad with low fat dressing on the side instead of heavy appetizer. The buffet has a salad bar with lots of fresh veggies and fruit. There’s also a sandwich bar you can pile on the veggies with whole grain breads. They usually have at least one vegetarian main dish on the menu at each meal. Since we have the kids with us, we’ll probably skip the midnight munchy bar.

So with a little will power and knowledge, a cruise doesn’t have to be a death blow to healthy eating. There’s also a mini gym and walking for exercise so hopefully if we don’t loose weight we can keep from gaining any. Still, we need to actually lose some weight in order to stay on our overall weight goal track. I’m already in the habit of making healthy eating choices and know what to stay away from. That’s going to be hard, but not impossible.
